Updates: Bell Schedule 2022-2023

Cerritos High School Families:
CHS will not be able to move forward with the 8-period block for the 2022-2023 school year. There were a number of factors that affected the outcome of the schedule. The main one is that we could not guarantee that 9th and 10th-grade students would have 8 periods and therefore, there would be a loss of instructional minutes for students. Instead, CHS will be operating on a 6-period contract schedule for the 2022-23 school year. Find the schedule at: cerritoshs.us/bellschedule/

Here are some of the details about the 6-period Contract Schedule that you should be aware of:
  • We will be able to offer Zero and Seventh Period classes.
  • Zero period will start at 7:15 am and be held every day but Wednesday.
  • First period will start every day at 8:30 am.
  • Students will have six periods of instruction each day, accessing the full instructional minutes in the day
  • Some students (AVID, Pathways, athletes, etc.) may have seven periods (depending on availability).
  • There will be no Finals testing schedule (half days with 2-hour classes). Teachers may adjust by giving final exams that span 2-3 class periods.
  • As we are in the process of rebuilding our schedule from an 8-period Block to a 6-period Contract Schedule, our Counseling team is working overtime this summer (though they will not be accessible to contact) on creating our new student schedule. It is our goal to have tentative schedules ready for review on Aeries by August 10, 2022.  We will communicate with families when schedules are ready to view.
  • Next school year, the CHS teaching staff will have an opportunity to vote for an alternative (6-period Traditional, Block, etc.) bell schedule for the 2023-24 school year.
No matter our Bell Schedule, rest assured your students will be receiving a world-class education, worthy of Cerritos High School’s exceptional reputation!
Enjoy your summer months and I look forward to seeing all of our students on the first day of school – August 22nd – for “The Dawn of a New Don Year”.
