About Mrs. Rheaume

Classes
Mrs. Laura Rheaume shares her love of literature and writing with her students in her English classes. Students especially love the way she brings out the characters when reading Mice and Men passages. She loves it when students engage in sword battles and balcony scenes when acting out Romeo and Juliet.

Mrs. Rheaume also has a passion for languages, which she brings to her Spanish classes. Students make and share videos highlighting sports at Cerritos, take turns as customers and servers in a class restaurant, and walk through a market buying and selling handicrafts.

Mrs. Rheaume is the lead instructor for Cerritos High School's Teacher Track, a pathway designed for students with an interest in careers in education. In this program, which incorporates communication skills and standards of professional conduct, students learn about teaching methodology, brain research and the psychology of learning. Students walk to nearby Elliott Elementary twice a week to volunteer in classes. They work directly with students, making special friendships and learning how teaching impacts the lives of students. Students venture further into the community by attending two teaching conferences, touring CSULB, and volunteering at local Sonshine Preschool's Harvest Festival. Students who complete the pathway transfer to Cerritos College with college credit for two classes and a letter from the ABCUSD superintendent which guarantees them an interview when they complete their college coursework.
Biography

Laura Rheaume is the proud daughter of a veteran of the army and navy (father) and a teacher (mom). She lived in Germany and Italy as a young child when her dad was still in the military. After a few years in San Francisco, her family moved to Southern California, where she happily spent the rest of her youth, attended college to earn her teaching credential for elementary education and a Master's in Education, married, and built a life with her husband and three amazing sons. She has taught in elementary, middle and high schools as well as at an adult school and a university. In addition to her multiple subject credential, she holds Bilingual Specialist, English, Spanish, and CTE (Education) credentials. She is an adjunct professor for Cerritos College and teaches two Cerritos College classes on campus at Cerritos High School.

Mrs. Rheaume enjoys road trips to all corners of the country, spelunking, writing, aikido, reading, card games, and home improvement (tiling, wiring, painting, flooring, etc.) and going to the movies. She plans to travel the world, especially to places of geologic/geographic interest. Her husband is the chef of the house, but she does pride herself on one annual meal: Thanksgiving Dinner! Everything is made from scratch and the turkey is always 18 lbs. or bigger. What a feast!
